The Clocks
Beckett C.
Clocks melt like cheese in the sun,
dripping over a chestnut table and into
the hot desert sand.
A group of ants crawl across the wasteland to feed.
Ballerina dancers twirl across
a moonlit ocean in the distance.
Children are skipping pebbles across the sand
as a purple elephant floats in the sky,
followed by a group of green-haired fairies.
Clocks hang from nearby boulders.
Their harmonious ticking lulls me to sleep.
(Inspired by the painting The Persistence of
Memory by Salvador Dali )
